Uns is an interior designer and art curator who specialises in creating timeless interiors. She reveals her approach to projects and provides advice for sourcing antiques.
How would you describe your interiors style?
My interior style is classic, timeless and colourful. I have a traditional sense of style and love classic designs and vintage furniture. I am inspired by traditional architecture and interiors which will never date and stand the test of time. Adding colour is my forte, I can’t design a scheme without introducing colour as it really lifts a space.
How do you use antiques in your projects?
Antiques make a scheme, they add character and warmth, so I always introduce a few key pieces into all my schemes. Antique side tables, artwork and mirrors can easily be added into any scheme. Antique chairs and sofas are fun to upholster and are often the stars of the show. When I design a scheme, I always start sourcing when I know where I can place a special piece. I don't give up until I have found it and feel such a sense of accomplishment when I know my scheme is complete.
What do you love most about sourcing antiques?
The thrill of finding the perfect piece and knowing you will cherish it forever. Sourcing antiques has changed a lot. In the past I would have to go to the antique markets myself, but now there are so many dealers and vintage shops on Instagram. My first port of call is to go to my trusted dealers to see if they have what I need. It really is so easy to source these days. Charity shops are also a must along with Facebook Marketplace.
What does home mean to you?
Home is a reflection of me and my family. It is a comfortable, cosy environment where we make memories, host parties and enjoy chilling. As I designed my own home recently, I feel it is so special and cherish every detail. The kitchen is a great place to entertain and I love hosting dinner parties. I also love long baths in my bathroom - it’s a real luxury and it’s appreciated by the whole family.
